Description
Composition: Ceftriaxone for injection USP and sterile water for injection USP (SWFI)
Therapeutic Class: 3rd Generation Cephalosporin-type antibiotic
Indication: Cef – K is a broad-spectrum third generation cephalosporintype antibiotic indicated in the treatment of moderate to severe or lifethreatening infections such as meningitis, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), community acquired pneumonia, acute uncomplicated pyelonephritis, gonorrhoea, chlamydia. A single dose of cef-k administered preoperatively may reduce chances of post-operativeninfections.
Dosage Form: Sterile powder for injection
Strengths (Pack size):
– 1g Powder (SWFI 10ml)
– 2g Powder (SWFI 10ml)
Dosage:
ADULTS:
– Moderate Infections:
IV/IM 1 – 2gm q24h
– Severe Infections:
IV/IM 1 – 2gm q12h
– Uncomplicated Gonorrhea:
IM 250mg Single dose
INFANTS AND CHILDREN (One Month To 12 Years of Age):
– Miscellaneous Infections:
IV/IM 25mg – 37.5mg/kg q12h (Total daily dose 50 – 75mg/kg)
The total daily dose should not exceed 2gm. If body weight is 50kg or more the adult dose should be used.
– Meningitis:
IV/IM 50mg/kg* q12h (Total daily dose 100mg/kg)
(*With or without a loading dose of 75mg/kg)
