K-Balm National Armwrestling Championship: Pullers grab slots to represent Ghana at upcoming African Armwrestling Championship

Pullers from across the country converged at the seventh K-Balm National Armwrestling Championship held at Wesley Grammer Senior High School. 

The competition served as a qualifier for the upcoming African Armwrestling Championship and showcased participants from all over Ghana.

Samuel Adjetey Sowah emerged victorious in the Men’s 65kg category, dominating his opponents with an unbeaten record. The crowd enthusiastically supported Sowah, cheering his name whenever he approached the armwrestling table. Abdul Rahman Issahak, Abdul Somad Suleman, and Michael Mensah secured second and third places in the same category.

In the female 65kg category, Rachael Lankai emerged as the winner, while Blessed Naa Abeka Nunoo and Mary Quaye claimed second and third positions, respectively. Wisdom Kofi Abromekyi emerged as the champion in the men’s 80+kg division, with Godwin Sackey and Aziz Wahab finishing as the first and second runners-up.

Thomas Bannor clinched the top honors in the Men’s 80kg category, while David Bantah and Desmond Mensah earned the silver and bronze medals. The female 90kg category witnessed an intense battle, with Rashida Abass, Mariam Yussif, and Mary-Ann Abagale securing the top three positions.

In the men’s 90+kg category, Derrick Adu Kwakye, known as ‘Asoka GH,’ successfully defended his title, followed by Isaac Antwi Boasiako and Issah Kunyah. Mariam Kadiri Moro claimed the top spot in the female category, ahead of Afia Kumah and Grace Mintah who finished second and third, respectively.

Special awards were presented to Jonas Narh of Wesley Grammer Senior High School and Oliver Adam Atindani of KNUST Senior High School for their outstanding performance as first-timers. Mr. Dickson Kyere-Dua, General Secretary for the Brong Ahafo and Bono East division of GAF, expressed his satisfaction with the participants’ performance across the different categories and expressed confidence in Ghana’s strong representation at the upcoming African and World Championships.

Mr. Kyere-Dua extended his gratitude to the sponsors of the event, including KofiKrom Pharmacy, producers of K-Balm ointment, Twillium Industries, Adamus Resources, Swaggers Restaurant, and Wadada Business Ventures. Furthermore, Ghana is set to host the 12th African Armwrestling Championship from June 21 to June 25, 2023, at the GNAT Hall in Accra.
