Bimox Injection is a penicillin-type broad spectrum antibiotic indicated for the short-term treatment of bacterial infections.

Description

Composition: Amoxicillin and Clavulanate potassium for injection USP and sterile water for injection USP (SWFI)

Therapeutic Class: Penicillin-type broad spectrum antibiotic

Indication: Bimox Injection is a penicillin-type broad spectrum antibiotic indicated
for the short-term treatment of bacterial infections.

These include:
UPPER RESPIRATORY TRACT INFECTIONS: recurrent tonsillitis, sinusitis, otitis media
LOWER RESPIRATORY TRACT INFECTIONS: Lobar and Bronchopneumonia,
SKIN AND SOFT TISSUE INFECTIONS: Boils, abscesses, cellulitis, wound infections
BONE AND JOINT INFECTIONS: osteomyelitis
GENITO-URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS: cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis

Bimox injection is also indicated for prophylaxis against infection which may be
associated with major surgical procedures.

Dosage Form: Sterile powder for injection (IV use only)

Strengths (Pack Size):
– 1.2G Powder (SWFI 10ml)
– 600mg Powder (SWFI 10ml)

Dosage:
Adults and children ≥ 40 kg
– CrCl (Creatinine Clearance): 10-30 ml/min – Initial dose of 1000 mg/200 mg and then 500 mg/100 mg given twice daily
– CrCl < 10 ml /min – Initial dose of 1000 mg/200 mg and then 500 mg/100 mg given every 24 hours
– Haemodialysis – Initial dose of 1000 mg/200 mg and then followed by 500
mg/100 mg every 24 hours, plus a dose of 500 mg/100 mg at the end of
dialysis (as serum concentrations of both amoxicillin and clavulanic acid are
decreased)

Children < 40 kg
– CrCl: 10 to 30 ml/min – 25 mg/5 mg per kg given every 12 hours
– CrCl < 10 ml /min – 25 mg/5 mg per kg given every 24 hours
– Haemodialysis – 25 mg/5 mg per kg given every 24 hours, plus a dose of 12.5
mg/2.5 mg per kg at the end of dialysis (as serum concentrations of both
amoxicillin and clavulanic acid are decreased)
